Accessing Your Files in iCloud Drive
Where Your Files Are Stored
Stardate automatically saves your audio recordings and transcriptions to your iCloud Drive. This makes it easy to access your files from any Apple device. Two files are created each time you record a note:
- A WAV file of your audio recording
- A text file containing the transcription
Accessing Files on Mac

Open Finder on your Mac

In the sidebar, click on iCloud Drive

Navigate to the Stardate folder

Inside this folder, you’ll find two subfolders:
- Recordings: Contains your WAV audio files
- Transcriptions: Contains your text transcription files
The path to your Stardate files in Terminal is:
~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud~com~deanputney~Stardate/Documents/
Accessing Files on iPhone or iPad

Open the Files app on your iOS device

Tap on Browse at the bottom of the screen if not already selected

Select iCloud Drive

Navigate to the Stardate folder

Access your Recordings and Transcriptions subfolders
File Naming Convention
Stardate saves your files with descriptive names that include timestamps to help you identify when they were created. The naming format is:
For example:
Stardate Recording 2024-01-30 at 20.00.49.wav
(audio recording)Stardate Log 2024-01-30 at 20.00.49.txt
(transcription)
Working with Your Files
Once you’ve found your files in iCloud Drive, you can:
- Listen to the audio recordings by opening the WAV files
- Read your transcriptions by opening the text files
- Copy the text to use in other applications
- Back up the files to another location
- Import the files into other data analysis tools
Troubleshooting
If you can’t find your files in iCloud Drive, check the following:
- Make sure you have iCloud Drive enabled on your device
- Check that you have sufficient iCloud storage space
- Ensure your device is connected to the internet and has synced recently
